Documentary Sessions
Documentary work gives me life.
You need to hear this: YOUR LIFE IS WORTHY OF DOCUMENTATION. The way it is, right now, in this very moment, unfolded laundry and all.
If the mere idea of a formal portrait session gives you hives, then a documentary session is for you.
If you can look around your home and remember where you baby took his first steps, or ate her first foods, or is ABOUT to do those things and you want it on film, then a documentary session is for you.
If you worry that it’s all going too quickly, that the chaos of life is making you miss the little moments, then a documentary session is for you.
Honestly, a documentary session is for everyone. You just might not know it yet.
What to expect:
Once you decide to book your session, we’ll schedule a phone call to chat about your vision for the day. We can simply hang at your home and do all the little things that make up a lifetime of memories. (Morning snuggles! Making pancakes! Brushing teeth! Reading books!) We can also plan a day of outings (Visiting the library! Playing at the park! A trip to the farmers market!), or a combo of both.
For a Half Day or Full Day Session, we can schedule a meet and greet for the day before our session if your kiddos are particularly shy. I’ve found that most kids typically warm up to me in less than 30 minutes, so this might not be necessary.
For the day of, all you really have to do to prep is to dress your family in some comfy clothes! The whole point of doing a documentary session is to be yourselves, so you want to wear clothes that you would normally wear. It would be a little incongruous to be dressed up for an at-home session.
“But Jill! My house is messy!” you say. And I say, “Don’t worry about it!!” Definitely do a tidy, but you don’t have to scrub bathrooms or floors. Clean like you would for friends, not like you’re listing the place for sale. And if you just don’t have time that week, DON’T WORRY. This is a STRESS-FREE session, and we will MAKE. IT. WORK. I am highly skilled at working around piles of laundry, mostly because I have to do it at my house all the time. Also, laundry is a part of life! And so are messes! Don’t forget to remind yourself that you happen to live in your house, and that’s ok.
I offer a few different Documentary Sessions, based primarily on length of coverage.
Eight hours with me may sound like A LOT, but trust me, we’d get some amazing images!
Every session with me gets a slideshow built into the gallery that holds your images. You can download and share it!
