What is documentary family photography?
Documentary Photography is unscripted.
I have a bachelor’s degree in photojournalism, which doesn’t do me a whole lot of good with the state of newspapers being what it is these days. I won’t even get started on how sad that makes me feel. But what that means is that I’m trained to observe, and document, life as it’s happening. That means no posing, no rearranging of your stuff, just pure documentation.
Documentary Photography is real.
No posing and no scripting means your family just gets to be your truly, authentically you! How many times have you caught a glimpse of your little one clutching their favorite stuffed animal, hair a fuzzy mess, thumb in their adorable little mouth. Wouldn’t a real picture, a tangible memory, of that moment be better than just a picture in your mind’s eye?
Documentary Photography is an investment.
I get it. I’m asking you to spend a significant amount of money. But aren’t your memories worth it? Picture yourself 30 years from now, flipping through an heirloom album with your grown children. How much more impactful will a book of documentary images that conjure REAL memories be than a series of pretty portraits taken at some forgotten park? While those images are good and valued and have their place, I hope you can see how important it is to capture your real, extraordinarily ordinary life!
